Oakland International Airport PRT Parking Lot Connector Project
Oakland, California, USA
The Port of Oakland retained JAI to manage an innovative transit demonstration project to link various parking lots with current and future terminals at the Oakland International Airport. Proven Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) technologies, such as those considered for the Port of Oakland-BART Connector project (currently under development), cannot fulfill the complex light passenger circulation objectives of this application. Therefore, the focus of this project was on Personal/Group Rapid Transit technologies.
As part of this project, JAI was tasked with performing detailed route planning and operational validation (including ridership modeling), assessing parking lot integration risks, evaluation of proposed guideway and station designs, detailed assessment of State of California design/build issues and requirements, evaluation of jurisdictional issues, and examination of life cycle costs. We also performed a detailed maintenance facility location impact study, developed an industry/market review and potential supplier analysis, and evaluated public/private partnership opportunities.
